About the SGA

What are the Science for Growth Awards?

The National Science for Growth Awards provide an opportunity for school students to improve their science skills and showcase their work by participating in real-life science individually or in a team.

Students choose a scientific topic that interests them, pose a hypothesis, carry out experiments and work to answer their question using scientific methodology.

The Science for Growth Awards are sponsored by the Cotton Research and Development Corporation and managed by the Primary Industry Centre for Science Education (PICSE).

Students present their findings as a PowerPoint poster (single slide), which will be judged by scientists and industry representatives who select winners based on:

  • The use of the scientific method within the report
  • The standard and relevance of the visual presentation, using photographs, diagrams, graphs, You Tube clips etc
  • The effectiveness of the written communication using text, graphics, summaries of student reports
Great cash prizes are available. All participants receive a Certificate of Participation.
